| | AIR QUALITY IN THE AIRCRAFT AIRBORNE INFECTION - HEPA FILTERS As the global outbreak of Sars showed, dangerous infections can now spread from continent to continent in hours, thanks to modern jet travel. The speed of transmission of infection may be made even easier because of poor air filtration in many planes. In fact, experts say one in every seven large commercial jets still doesn't have HEPA filters in place that can help prevent passengers from breathing in airborne pathogens. The interior of the average plane represents a closed environment with re-circulating air. In many ways this is ideal for the spread of disease, and travellers are mixing with people from a wide geographic area. Even small viruses such as SARS, if they are carried on water droplets from a sneeze or cough, should be trapped by a properly fitted HEPA filter. TIP: Wash hands in soap and water frequently, and resist touching your face. TIP: If you are worried, make sure you are one of the first passengers on the plane, and spray your own and surrounding seats with a solution of grapefruit seed extract which is naturally antiparasitic, antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal - every little helps! |

Multi Liver Formula | | | | | ALLERGIES Travellers with food allergies must be even more alert and careful than regular travellers to prevent allergic reactions from ruining their business trip or holiday. The following tips may be useful: - Bring your own food for the air journey. Air crew may not know precise contents of meals served.
- Ask the headwaiter or even the chef of destination hotels what a specific dish contains. If there is a language barrier, opt for plain foods such as grilled steak without sauces, cooked vegetables without exotic trimmings, and cereals and grains that you are not allergic to.
- If you are allergic to seafood and crustaceans, take great care when visiting the East as practically every dish contains some form of seafood.
- Travellers with nut or sesame seed allergy are also exposed to great risk in Eastern countries, because nuts and sesame seeds are used in many recipes.
| TIP: Before your trip, order a dietary card in the appropriate language/s, which you can hand to the waiter, who will hand it to the chef, who will then understand why you must avoid gluten, lactose, nuts, or whatever you have arranged to have written on your card. Fear of flying, fear of confined spaces, and worries about medical conditions worsening during flight are common sources of anxiety. Anxiety can cause insomnia, making jet lag worse. Stress and the fear of flying could be a key factor in causing DVT. Anxiety causes a surge of the hormone adrenaline, which makes blood more likely to clot and causes vessels to constrict. This may be the kick-start needed to form a clot. Anxiety or fear of flying - Flying is safer than road or rail travel in most developed countries
- Distract yourself by talking with other passengers, watching in-flight films, eating or reading
- Tell the cabin crew. Reassurance about strange sounds etc. can help
- Visit your doctor prior to travel to assess your general fitness for air travel
| | | | TIPS for anxiety: Since many panic attacks can be caused by a release of adrenaline, sometimes caused by low blood sugar, it is important to eat before a flight. The meal should be of protein (meat, fish, beans with a grain) and complex carbohydrates (example, chicken or fish with vegetables). No sugar should be taken before or during the flight as sugar causes adrenaline rushes. This includes soft drinks and alcohol, which cause sugar highs. Caffeine causes an adrenaline rush, and therefore colas or coffee are poor beverage choices. Do not assume you will receive something to eat on the plane. There may be a long unexpected delay when you have already boarded, and you may not be served any food or drink for several hours. Carry a packet of nuts and seeds, a couple of spirulina snack bars or spiru-tein high protein energy bars and a bottle of water in your hand luggage to keep blood sugar balanced.
