Molkosan is a naturally lactofermented
whey which is concentrated during processing, to ensure a high content
of minerals, especially calcium, potassium, phosphorus and L(+) lactic
acid.
L(+) lactic acid gives the product a pH
of 2.7 (very acidic) which combines with its antiseptic action to
inhibit bacterial and fungal infections.
The yeast Candida albicans is present
in every individual. It normally lives harmlessly in the
gastrointestinal tract.
Antibiotics are often responsible for
upsetting the balance of the intestinal flora by suppressing the
normal intestinal bacteria. This provides an opportunity for Candida
overgrowth. The antifungal activity of Molkosan is due to its acidity
and buffering capability. It is able to re-establish the normal
balance of organisms in the digestive tract.
This antifungal activity is also useful
topically against vaginal thrush, athlete's foot and ringworm.
The ability of orotic acid to enhance
the digestive and metabolic processes makes Molkosan useful as an aid
to a slimming programme.
*The lactose in Molkosan is present in
its natural form, which does not cause digestive problems for lactose
intolerant or lactose sensitive people.
