Enzymes found in the leaf and fruit of papaya have protein digesting activity, and also act on carbohydrate and fat.

Papaya leaves are used commercially to tenderise meat.
Papain has a similar action to pepsin, an enzyme present in the gastric juices produced by the stomach to break down proteins.
Due to papain's digesting effect on gluten (the protein present in wheat), it may assist those who find it hard to break down this substance.
It has been used extensively as a digestive aid, acting as a replacement enzyme, and has been found to be more effective than other naturally occurring proteases, such as trypsin.
Research on the ability of papain to remove intestinal worms has shown that it dissolves the outer cuticle of the worm.

Ingredients:
Each 250mg tablet contains powdered Papaya leaves 153mg and Papain 9mg. Also contains glucose, lactose, magnesium stearate (vegetable source) and acacia gum.
