HEARTBURN What is Heartburn?It’s
important to differentiate between ‘Indigestion’ and ‘heartburn’. Indigestion
is often caused by lack of stomach acid (hydrochloric acid) and enzymes. It can also be caused by over-eating, eating too fast or on the move or
whilst under stress, and it’s often a symptom of bacterial imbalance or fungal
infection in the intestines, in which case you probably also suffer from wind
and bloating.
On
the other hand, ‘heartburn’ is sometimes caused by excessive stomach acid or
a hiatus hernia or ulcer. An
experienced nutrition consultant will be able to distinguish between the various
possibilities, but in the meantime you could try the following:
Nutrition Facts & Diet Advice for Heartburn The following nutrition guidelines should be considered:
 | Eat slowly and chew well. |  | Do not eat overly large meals. Do not eat for three hours before bedtime. |  | Follow the ‘Food Combining’ way of eating (separating proteins from starches). See book below. |  | Avoid soft drinks, carbonated drinks, fried food, processed food, sugar, alcohol and spicy or highly seasoned foods. |  | Drink at least 1½ litres of spring or filtered water every day, at room temperature or warmer. |
