HEPATITIS

About Hepatitis

Hepatitis is a serious condition requiring the care of a medical doctor.  Get plenty of bed rest during the acute phase and as health improves resume activity gradually. Avoid strenuous exertion, alcohol and unnecessary drugs and chemicals.  During the contagious phase (2-3 weeks before symptoms appear until 3 weeks after), be especially careful about hygiene and avoid close contact with others.  Avoid working in restaurants or with children or sick people.

There are different types of viral hepatitis: types A, B, C, E, non-A and non-B.  All are contagious.  There is also a form of hepatitis called toxic hepatitis, which is not caused by a virus but by exposure to chemicals such as hydrocarbons and arsenic.

Nutrition Facts & Diet Advice for Hepatitis

The following nutrition guidelines should be considered:

  • Clinical experience indicates that eating a natural diet, low in saturated fats, refined foods, sugar, fried foods and animal fat, but high in fibre, increases the elimination of bile acids, drugs and toxic bile substances from the system.

  • With the help of an experienced nutritional therapist or a nutritionally aware physician, follow a cleansing diet for two to four weeks.

  • Artichokes, carrot juice and beet juice, as well as ‘green drinks’ and Klamath Lake Blue Green Algae are particularly good

  • Thereafter, continue with these cleansing foods, whilst adding a generally clean and high-fibre diet, preferably largely vegetarian with a little white fish.

  • Avoid sugar, alcohol, animal fat (except fish), all refined foods.

  • Investigate juicing and blending of vegetables and fruits (read books by Victoria Boutenko)
